HMS Duncan is the sixth and last of the Type 45 or Daring-class air-defence destroyers built for the Royal Navy and launched in 2010. Duncan is named after Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan (1 July 1731 – 4 August 1804), who defeated the Dutch fleet at the Battle of Camperdown on 11 October 1797.

Led by Commander Dan Lee, HMS Duncan is the sixth of the highly-capable Daring Class, Type 45 air defence destroyers and one of the most advanced warships in the world. She sails with a ship‘s company in excess of 280 personnel and is based at Portsmouth Naval Base.

Seven Royal Navy ships have been named HMS Duncan, after Admiral Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdown, hero of the Battle of Camperdown. HMS Duncan (1804) was the mercantile Carron, launched at Bombay Dockyard in 1792. She made three voyages from India to Britain for the British East India Company between 4 November 1795 and 17 June 1801.

Type 45 destroyer HMS Duncan has left her home port of Portsmouth following a refit period. The Royal Navy confirmed the 152-metre vessel was leaving HMNB Portsmouth to carry out "routine post-maintenance activity".
