Hurricane forecasters encourage Gulf Coast residents to monitor the progression of a tropical disturbance located in the Caribbean Sea, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Major models are not hinting at the development of a hurricane, but Florida residents should prepare for a rainy weekend.

Early computer models took it west for a few days, and it could follow the path of the other storm in front of it — Tropical Storm Kirk — which ended up on a northern track that would keep it far from land. Kirk is also expected to become a major Category 3 hurricane as soon as Thursday.

AccuWeather warns that one to two tropical storms could crop up in the western Caribbean Sea over the next week as the National Hurricane Center tracks one disturbance already.
