The Kansas City Chiefs have found a quarterback to back up superstar Patrick Mahomes in the 2025 season, signing Gardner Minshew to a one-year deal in NFL free agency.

Minshew was selected in the sixth round of the 2019 draft by the Jaguars to back up Nick Foles. He was thrust into action in the season opener — against the Chiefs — and had a solid outing. He went 22-for-25 passing for 275 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort.

As one of their later free-agency moves, the Chiefs pinpointed this veteran quarterback to be Patrick Mahomes' backup in 2025.
