Alex Ovechkin’s chase of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL goals record has been forcefully put on a sudden pause. The Washington Capitals announced Tuesday that their captain is listed as week-to-week with a lower-body injury sustained in Monday’s 6–2 victory over the Utah Hockey Club.

The injury comes with Ovechkin off to the best goal-scoring start of his career — 15 in 18 games — and 27 behind Wayne Gretzky's NHL record.

The Capitals said Alex Ovechkin would be evaluated further by doctors when they return home from their road trip.
