Israel launched a raid on the Palestinian West Bank hours after President Donald Trump took office. Here's why it's happening now.

The Israeli military said Sunday that it had killed at least 50 militants during more than two weeks of operations in the occupied West Bank, earlier levelling buildings in Jenin refugee camp in the territory.

Another eight soldiers were wounded when a Palestinian gunman opened fire at a checkpoint in Tayasir village, 2km (1.2 miles) north of Tubas, a military statement said. The attacker was shot dead, it said.

At least two Israeli soldiers were killed early on Tuesday after a gunman opened fire at an Israeli military post in the occupied West Bank, according to Israeli officials. The Israeli military said the soldiers returned fire and the Palestinian gunman was later killed.

The Palestinian health ministry said on Wednesday that Israeli forces killed two people in separate overnight raids in the occupied West Bank, including one in Jenin, where the Israeli military is conducting a major offensive.
