The up-and-down campaign of Detroit Red Wings goalie Ville Husso is re-entering the down cycle. Following Saturday’s 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Wings were reassigning Husso to the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Red Wings swung on Husso after he posted a 2.56 GAA, .919 season with the St. Louis Blues. He had a 26-22-7 record that year. He's not young, but the 29-year-old netminder is too old to throw in the towel completely.

The Red Wings (20-18-4) are seeking their eighth win in a row, which would be their longest streak since 2008 (Jan. 17-Feb. 5). It will be Husso’s first appearance for the Red Wings in one month, since his 23-save performance in a 4-2 victory over Toronto, his lone NHL win this season (1-4-2).
