The Comedy Central program on Thursday cut clips of the Episcopal Bishop of Washington’s calm and measured plea to Trump that he have “mercy” on those people his policies may harm alongside footage of Fox News hosts and talking heads responding to her.

On Tuesday, Episcopal Bishop of Washington, D.C., Mariann Edgar Budde spoke directly to Trump in a national prayer service following his inauguration on Monday, saying, “In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” including undocumented immigrants and LGBTQ+ children.
Budde said she regrets the angry reactions to her pointed request for Trump to show mercy, but added that she stands by her remarks.

Just 24 hours after Melania Trump’s hat dominated Twitter, Bishop Mariann Budde found herself trending when she issued an impassioned speech about having “mercy” on LGBTQ+ Americans and immigrants in light of the extreme rule changes the President has already imposed.
President was not entertained by sermon urging him to have mercy on LGBTQ children and migrants -- and that was the point.
Mariann Edgar Budde, the bishop who offered a pointed message to President Trump, has been on a media tour in recent days appearing on CNN, MSNBC and "The View."
