The sun is in a spirited mood as it kicks out a glowing series of solar flares, including a fresh X9 that's the most intense we've seen in years.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the most powerful solar flare emitted by the sun since 2017, according to Space.com, on Thursday 3.Footage released by NASA shows imagery of the event, which was classed as an X9.

A powerful solar flare has been hurled out of the Sun, and could cause disruption on Earth. The flare comes amid increasing solar activity that has brought a run of intense space weather in recent days and weeks.
