Singer Linda Nolan, a member of pop group the Nolans, has died at the age of 65, her agent has said. Dermot McNamara announced her death "with profound sadness" on Wednesday. In a statement, he said: "She passed at around 10:20am at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on the MCEW Ward.

The Nolans have paid tribute to their sister Linda, "a pop icon and beacon of hope", following her death. The star was admitted to hospital with pneumonia over the weekend and died with her family by her side.

In 2000, Linda landed her most successful role, in Willy Russell's Blood Brothers, taking over as Mrs Johnstone from her younger sister Bernie. But it was also at the start of the 2000s that Linda's world, and that of her family, began to fall apart.
