“The impact of tariffs is becoming more salient,” said Ernie Tedeschi, the director of economics at the Yale University Budget Lab, which has been closely watching Trump’s tariffs. “Apparel, which had seen cool inflation the last 2 months, grew 0.4% in June. Household furnishings grew 1%. Video & audio electronics grew 1.1%.”
Indonesia also has agreed to purchase billions in U.S. energy, agriculture products and airplanes, Trump said July 15 in a social media post.
While Tuesday's focus was on the tariff-related inflation hit to Treasuries, it's been a rough week for government bonds everywhere - especially in Japan as long-term yields there hit new highs this week ahead of the July 20 upper house election and related fiscal policy worries.
From inflation to tariffs going into effect, prices are driving shoppers to form new habits and/or make some tough decisions.
