A major medical emergency at the Fruitvale BART station Wednesday night closed that station and the Lake Merritt station as service in Oakland was halted, officials said.

OAKLAND – Two East Bay BART stations were closed Wednesday night due to a “major medical emergency,” officials said. The emergency happened just before 9 p.m. at the Fruitvale BART station, BART spokesperson Anna Duckworth said in a recorded message. She did not disclose the exact nature of the emergency.
