President Donald Trump’s executive order banning offshore wind projects has brought New Jersey’s first offshore wind project to a standstill.

New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities, or BPU, on Monday said it would not award any new wind projects, the latest wallop to the state’s big plans for the renewable energy source since President Donald Trump took office last month.

New Jersey has abandoned plans for a fourth offshore wind solicitation, effectively killing the proposed Atlantic Shores project after Shell withdrew as an equity partner. The decision by state utility planners shatters Gov. Phil Murphy’s long-running ambitions to shift the state’s power production to wind power and other renewables.
